"Best" is just a matter of opinion as each weapon has something to offer if used well. If you feel you are being effective with hammers then keep using them.
Any time in a town you can rearrange your attributes so find a good sword and axe and try out those skills and decide for yourself what you enjoy the most, which is the most important thing, really. |

Ive used them all, still only carry a sword/shield with my W/R
My R/W Ive been playing with a hammer. I dont like it at all. Between the sword and axe, I feel teh axe lacks good skills compared to the sword. |

The better question to ask is what you want to do....
If you're looking to disrupt and deal damage, then a Hammer is an obvious choice because you have the capability to keep you're target on the floor for a small but significant period of time. If you want straight damage and dps with spiking capability, then Ax is the best way...the Ax skills in general are allz about damage. If you looking to cause status effects quickly or you don't neccessarily want to use a weapon elite for whatever reason, then swords may make more sense for you. You have nice energy based skills, cripple on demand and Final Thrust, although situational, makes a pretty good substitute for any weapon elite. If you're looking to tanks, then go with Axes or Swords since more or less you'll be needing your shield obviously. |

as minsc would say from baldurs gate "swords, not words"
actually it's all a matter of opinion and player style if you prefer the hammer use it ovr all Anet tried to balance it all out because while a hammer will deal more dmg it recovers slower than an axe and axe is a little slower than a sword plus the hammer being a 2 handed weapon makes it impossible to use a shield so while a sword may deal the least dmg of all warrior weapons they also attack quicker and give the option for more protection so it all balances out in the end as someone else pointed out I would get myself a good sword axe and a good shield and try them out whats the worst that could happen you can always change them back later on but another thing to consider is if you do decide to use the other weapons you have to get the skills and rearrange your attribute points accordingly which could prove more trouble than it's worth |

I've switched countless times between weapons and skill sets, IMHO if you're going to be a warrior, GET ALL SKILLS YOU CAN I can tell you firsthand, no two areas in the game are quite the same and depending on your weaponset
you'll be doing better or worse. Example: Ascalon: I loved Axe for cyclone with the charr everywhere Stone Summit and Shiverpeaks: I prefer Disrupting with hammer and knockdowns Kryta: I prefer Axe once more with a different skill set for smiting the undead <I'm a W/Mo> Maguuma Area: Sword for bleeding/gash on Whitemantle. Crystal Desert: I liked my swords, cripple, final thrust, and skills like that couple with my griffon build. Those are just some example, you can effectively do more damage if you get all skills and EXPLOIT THE WEAPONS TOGGLE =) The toggle is your friend. I keep my Axe/Hammer/Sword in my inventory all the time on a toggle set, but I only keep attributes into one. I can switch in any outpost to be more effective. Overall, I like this route. Those are just my 2 cents --The Shim |
